The handpan is a relatively new musical instrument that originated at the beginning of the 21st century. Inspired by the steelpan from the Caribbean, the handpan has enchanted music enthusiasts all over the world with its mystical and harmonious sound. The hemispherical steel drum is played with the hands and is characterized by its diverse sound possibilities. Each note on a handpan can produce different overtones and harmonies that, when combined, create a rich and complete sound.

Kate Stone and Rafael Sotomayor
We also offer CDs by the talented artists Rafael Sotomayor and Kate Stone. Their music reflects the magic and versatility of the handpan and shows what is possible with this unique instrument. Their music allows you to explore the versatile possibilities of the handpan and inspire your own musical journey.

Rafael Sotomayor's music is intense and rhythmic, often with a pulsating beat that takes the listener on a journey through a variety of soundscapes. His virtuosity showcases the technical brilliance of the instrument, and he uses his experience to create melodies that are both uplifting and meditative.

Kate Stone, on the other hand, has a gentler approach. Her melodies are flowing and lyrical, often imbued with a deep emotionality. The sound of her handpan takes us through dreamy landscapes, with the subtle nuances of her playing evoking a depth of feeling that touches the listener and takes them on an inner journey. Kate Stone often plays on the D-Minor scale or the Pygmy scale. Kate Stone plays on Opsilon handpans.

Together, Rafael and Kate represent the broad spectrum of what is possible with a handpan. Their music is a testament to the diversity and depth of this instrument.
